Steve Carell doesn’t usually play the bad guy, so he gets to stretch his chops in the 3D CGI movie ‘Despicable Me.’ He voices the part of Gru, a guy who delights in all things wicked and lives in a black house with a dead lawn.
The house sticks out like a sore thumb because all around it is happy suburban homes with white picket fences and flowering roses bushes. But the house isn’t the only thing different about Gru. Hidden beneath his home is a secret hideout where he’s planning the biggest heist in the history of the world. He’s going to steal the moon!
Except … one day he encounters three little orphaned girls who see something in him no one else ever has – they see a Dad.

The animation looks great, and the voice talent is awesome: Kristen Wiig, Jason Segel, Miranda Cosgrove, Ken Jeong, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, Russell Brand, Danny McBride, Mindy Kaling, Jack McBrayer and Jemaine Clement, to name a few.
It’s directed by Pierre Coffin (his first feature film; he’s mainly worked as an animator up to this point) and arrives in theaters July 9, 2010.
