‘Scarecrow and Mrs. King: The Complete First Season’ was released on DVD March 9, 2010. The show ran four seasons from 1983 to 1987 and starred Kate Jackson as a housewife and Bruce Boxleitner as a spy she ends up falling in love with.
It’s one of those shows that was really fun to watch, because the two leads worked really well together. This was after ‘Charlie’s Angels,’ and a really different role for Jackson, who played Amanda King, a divorcee who lives outside of Washington D.C. with her sons Jamie (Greg Morton) and Phillip (Paul Stout).
Boxleitner – before he went on to make history as John Sheridan on ‘Babylon 5’ – plays Lee Stetson a.k.a. ‘Scarecrow.’ He ends up embroiling Amanda in spy caper and a partnership ensues. It all works out because Scarecrow’s boss Billy (Mel Stewart) thinks a housewife will make a perfect decoy. Fellow agent Francine (Martha Smith) is the killjoy here and has her doubts.
More after the jump, including clips…
Amanda doesn’t tell anyone about her new job, not even her mom Dotty (Beverly Garland), who looks after the boys while Amanda’s off dodging bullets and chasing the bad guys.
Most of the storylines are lighthearted fare that are a fun escape from some of the more grisly stuff you see on TV these days. Buy ‘Scarecrow and Mrs. King: The Complete First Season’ on Amazon, and check out a couple of clips.
