After watching Miley Cyrus sing on ‘American Idol’ last week, I had to wonder if her heart wasn’t in it so much anymore. It just seemed … forced, and it’s probably a good thing she didn’t have to stand before Simon Cowell, et al for judgment.
As it turns out, the multi-talented teen star says she’s quitting music to focus on films. She told the ladies of ‘The View’ that “the music industry isn’t as positive as I’d like it to be.”
And at the L.A. premiere of her new movie, ‘The Last Song,’ Cyrus told E! that her next album will be her last. “I’ve got a record coming out in June and then I’m done,” she said. “I just want to work in movies. That’s what I like and that’s what I want to be doing.”
The film industry is a tough one, but to me, it seems like the music industry would be even tougher, with the grueling schedule of concert tours and such. There’s a reason singers are always collapsing from exhaustion. Besides, that, Cyrus has already been-there-done-that when it comes to music. She’s done practically everything, and she’s only 17 years old.
In ‘The Last Song,’ in theaters March 31, she plays a rebellious teen who’s sent to a Southern beach town for the summer to stay with her dad, played by Greg Kinnear. Her love interest in the movie, Liam Hemsworth, is also her main squeeze in real life.
‘The Last Song’ looks like just the right blend of drama, comedy and romance, and I’m looking forward to seeing it.
