I’m not too sure about Ricky Gervais’ hosting skills at the Golden Globes the other night. He sort of bombed out. And I even talked with him a few weeks before the event, and he said he’d be nice and have fun with it.
Well, here’s the thing. You can’t make fun of a bunch of people who are sitting right in front of you. So when he took potshots about Kiefer Sutherland’s anger management issues and Mel Gibson’s drinking, it didn’t seem that funny. Not funny at all, really. In fact, I thought maybe Kiefer was going to jump onstage and beat the crap out of him.
Anyway, for the next Golden Globes host, I’d like to nominate Robert Downey, Jr. His acceptance speech for winning Best Actor (Comedy or Musical) was really sweet and funny. Take a look, and if you haven’t seen “Sherlock Holmes” yet, go see it.
