IN GOOD COMPANY
Mini-Review by
Rachel Dickinson, guest reviewer
Rated PG-13 (for
sexual content and some drug references). 110 minutes. Directed by Paul
Weitz. Wide Release: Jan. 14, 2005.
From the trailers, I expected In
Good Company to be a light-hearted throw-away comedy. Then I
heard David Edelstein review the movie on Fresh Air , and I
realized that this might be more than fluff.
Dennis Quaid plays an ad salesman
at a popular sports magazine that gets swept up in a corporate take
over. Quaid, a 23-year veteran of the ad department, gets saddled
with a new boss, 26-year-old Topher Grace (of That 70's Show
fame).
The
movie follows Topher and Quaid, who has to hang on to his job
because he has a kid in college and his wife is
pregnant. Ultimately, both men learn from each other. And, no
surprise, Topher learns a whole lot from Quaid -- like how to be
human.
Great anti-corporate thread
running throughout. Johanssen puts in a good performance as Quaid's
daughter.
