THE INCREDIBLES
Rated PG (for
mild language and crude humor). 115 minutes. Written and directed by
Brad Bird. Ok for kids 6 and up.
In this Pixar
animated comedy, Mr. Incredible/Bob (Craig T. Nelson) is forced into the
Superhero Relocation Program after being grounded by lawsuits (not
everyone wants to be saved, apparently). His wife, Elastigirl/Helen
(Holly Hunter) is raising their kids in a white-brick ranch in the
‘burbs, while Mr. I battles traffic in his econo-car and deals with
imbeciles at his job as an insurance salesman.
But
cubicle life is getting the big guy down. He wants his glory days back.
So when the evil Syndrome (Jason Lee) threatens to conquer the world
with giant robots, Mr. I springs into action and soon finds himself on a
Riven-like tropical island kicking butt and battling foes – until he
gets caught and has to be rescued by his wife and kids (Sarah Vowell and
Spencer Fox), who have their own superhero powers.
Rounding out the cast is Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone, another superhero
from the old days, and Brad Bird as Edna “E” Mode, an Edith Head-type
character who designs superhero costumes and doles out advice.
THE
LOW-DOWN: This is a fun movie filled with great characters, comic
action, and some biting satire about modern-day America (“They keep
finding new ways to celebrate mediocrity,” sighs Mr. Incredible). A true
family movie that celebrates families.
SCORE: 4 out
of 4 Reels.
