Hard to believe it’s only been three years since AnnaSophia Robb sprung onto the movie scene. But in that short time, the blond-haired actress has starred in eight movies, including Because of Winn-Dixie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Bridge to Terabithia, in theaters Feb. 16, 2007.

In Bridge to Terabithia, Robb, 13, plays Leslie Burke, the “new kid at school” who makes friends with Jess Aarons (Josh Hutcherson). Leslie’s knack for story-telling brings out Jess’ love of drawing. Together, they create a magical kingdom called Terabithia—except the magic comes to life when they realize they can travel there by swinging on a rope over a stream near their homes.

Terabithia is a secret world of ancient forests, winding rivers, colorful flowers, and rushing waterfalls. It also has its share of trolls, giants, and flying creatures – not all of them friendly either. “I loved shooting in Terabithia,” recalls Robb. “The forest is incredible, and the tree fort is real. Swinging on the rope was great!”

But working on a movie set isn’t always as glamorous as it’s cracked up to be. Robb recalls one memorable time working on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, in which she played the role of Violet.

“The make-up department was practicing my make-up to get it right for the blueberry sequence,” she says. “They put a bald wig on me, painted my face and head purplish-blue, and then it was time for lunch. I walked into the catering tent, with a hundred or more folks staring at me. I just had to laugh. I looked horrible.”

And if you’re wondering if the candy in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was real, it was! “We shot in the Chocolate Room for four weeks, and the set was beyond magical. Most all the candy was real, and the entire crew was jazzed to the max.”

Robb says she usually doesn’t get nervous on set. Instead, she uses her energy to focus on the craft of acting. “Sometimes when I’m doing a heavy scene, then I really have to concentrate. But it’s just part of what I do, and I love it! I don’t have much trouble memorizing, and if I do mess up, the director is usually fine with doing it over.”

One of the neat things about being an actress is getting to keep a few things from the set. “I love to get something from the films,” she says. “It’s like having an old friend around.” Some of her movie treasures: a red T-shirt from Opal’s softball team in Winn-Dixie; the signature plaid dress from Samantha: An American Girl Holiday; the karate outfit from Charlie; and some of the costumes from Terabithia that never made it into the film.

In case you’re wondering, AnnaSophia’s name means “Graceful Wisdom”. It’s also a compilation of names from both sides of the family. “My mom’s Danish great-grandmother was Ann-Sofi, and my Dad’s mom’s name is Anna Marie,” she notes.

Robb enjoys dance, including ballet, jazz, hip-hop, break’n, and Irish step. She loves being active, especially skiing, snowboarding, rafting, gymnastics, and swimming (no problem on those running scenes in Terabithia!) She’s an only child, but loves spending time with close friends, her ten cousins, and her dog, Bella Roux.

And to set the record straight, Robb does NOT have a MySpace site! “But I’ve been told there’s a couple of people pretending to be me,” she says.

ANNASOPHIA’S FAVES:

BOOK: I love lots of books and movies, but Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are still my all-time favorites.

BAND: Black Eyed Peas, The Beatles.

SONGS BY THE BLACK-EYED PEAS: Pump It, Hey Mama, My Humps, and Where is the Love?

CLOTHING STORES: Jigsaw London, TRAD, Abercrombie.

MOVIE: I have a lot of favorite movies, but a few that come to mind are Lord of the Rings, The Interpreter, Napoleon Dynamite, and The Manchurian Candidate (the remake).

FOOD: Sushi, Chinese, and Italian.

SET MEMORY: I can’t pick one favorite. Every film is so different, and I don’t like to compare them to each other.

  • I love all of the movies that you have done so far. You are so good for your age.

Anyway if there was a way that my dad and your dad could get together and talk that would be great.

For you and I might be related. For my last name is Robb.

My Grandfathers name was Charles Marshall George Robb.

  • I was extremely pleased with the new Charlie and The Chocolate Factory movie. I loved the mix of characters that starred - some rookies and some vets - their roles were played magnificently.

  • I went into ‘Bridge to Terabithia’ not knowing what it was about. From the trailers I had assumed that it was kind of like The Never Ending Story, but I found that the trailers were terribly misleading. Since I have never read the book, I had no idea what it would really be like, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
