Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth in The Hunger Games | Lionsgate

Well, here it is. The teaser trailer for The Hunger Games I posted about last week, which aired during MTV’s Video Music Awards tonight. We still don’t have a ton of footage, mostly just Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) running through the woods with her bow and arrow. Which, ok, is a lot of what the movie is about.

The story takes place in a dystopian future America now known as Panem, a nation made up of twelve impoverished districts, all ruled by a militant Capitol where technology and excess are a way of life. Every year the Capitol holds a televised battle, where one male and female child from each district must fight to the death for the pleasure of the Capitol.

Katniss is a young hunter from District 12 who sacrifices herself to save her little sister Prim from the games, and in so doing, embarks on a brave fight for survival that could change a nation. The movie arrives in theaters March 23, 2012.

Any thoughts on the trailer?

The most intriguing thing about the Hunger Games, to me, was the great storyline. But this shows none of the drama in the story. Just some stupid special effects and a disembodied voice over. Excuse me while I fan myself …

I know what you mean. And they must have done enough filming to show us SOMETHING more than what they showed. Harumph, I say. By the way, I’m half-way through the third book, and can definitely see the whole trilogy on the big screen now.

So my son will want to see this, for sure, it’s his demographic. Now I just have to decide if I’m going to read the book first.
