avatar-dvd While I love seeing movies in the theater – the smell of the popcorn, the darkened lights, the trailers, ahhhh – I also love it when great movies come out on DVD. Then I can see them over and over, watch with my family, and pass them around to friends and family.

Avatar’ was released on DVD and Blu-ray April 22, 2010. You can read my full review here, but suffice to say it’s one of my favorite movies from 2009. The colors and images are stunning (one of those rare films that was actually better in 3D), the cast noteworthy, and the story has a great message.

Well, great for some. I wrote a piece for Moviefone (check it out here) asking whether it was a fun fantasy or a political statement. The nearly 1000 comments on the piece went both ways, for sure.

The story follows a paraplegic marine (Sam Worthington) who’s dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission. He soon finds himself torn between following his military orders and protecting the world he now feels is his home. There’s also a sweet romance, lots of action, and gorgeous imagery. Check out the trailer:

My husband has already watched the DVD version to determine if it was as good as the 4 times he caught it at the theater. He gave it a thumbs up.

I couldn’t get past the first 10 minutes …

I am the only person in the universe who has not seen Avatar yet.

I did not see Avatar and was wondering whether it would be any good on DVD. Thanks for the advice. I’ll check it out now.
