Kathryn Bigelow’s New Film “Detroit” Explores 1967 Race Riots

Annapurna Pictures just released the first trailer and shots from their upcoming film ‘DETROIT,’ directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Ms. Bigelow is the first (and only) woman to win a best director Academy Award for her war drama “The Hurt Locker” (2010) set in Iraq. She went on to direct the controversial “Zero Dark Thirty” in 2012.

John Boyega stars in Ms. Bigelow’s new drama, “Detroit,” is set during the summer of 1967 and tells the story of the civil unrest that engulfed Detroit during that period. The movie re-teams her with Oscar-winning screenwriter Mark Boal.

The release date is August 4, 2017.

    She is the first woman to win a ~Best Director~ Oscar…many women have won Academy Awards.

    You are absolutely right- and of course I knew that. (This is what happens when you don’t have an extra pair of eyes looking over your work.) She is not only the first female director to win a best director Oscar, she is the only one, which is disgraceful.
