In “Smurfs: The Lost Village” is a new take on the Smurfs, one that is also fully animated. The initial Smurf movies were a mix of live action and animation, something that didn’t go over well with a segment of Smurf fans.

The action this time revolves around a mysterious map that sets Smurfette and her best friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty on race through the Forbidden Forest filled with magical creatures to find a mysterious lost village. The villain embarking on this race to thwart the goals of the adorable blue cuties is evil wizard Gargamel.

Directed by Kelly Asbury written by Stacey Harman and Pamela Ribon, and based upon the characters and works of Peyo, the animated characters are voiced by Demi Lovato, Rainn Wilson, Joe Manganiello, Jack McBrayer, Danny Pudi, Michelle Rodriguez, Ellie Kemper, Ariel Winter, Mandy Patinkin and Julia Roberts.

“Smurfs: The Lost Village” opens April 7.
