Oh, give me a break. I absolutely love New Zealand — the real New Zealand, not Hobbit’s New Zealand, the home of misshapen little characters with furry toes. The Hobbit movies are popular and spectacular — thanks to the truly spectacular REAL New Zealand. But the flaks have decided that what Hollywood needs is a bit more fantasy.
So to promote the newest Hobbit’s New Zealand movie, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” they’ve moved New Zealand to Hollywood.
But that’s not enough. Nope, they’ve now built a gigantic pop-up book that represents the New Zealand scenes filmed in The Hobbit movies. The Hobbit’s New Zealand is Disneyfied New Zealand. Available only this week — five days starting Monday. But the only public tour is on Wednesday, December 4.
If you can’t get to New Zealand in person to see how gorgeous it is, then watch a DVD tour of it, but for heaven’s sake—not a Pop-Up-Book.
That’s just wrong. New Zealand deserves better. Click the photos below for larger views and sharing options.

An enormous amount of talent and skill and hard work went into this tacky endeavor. And they point proudly in the video below the photos.
If you absolutely MUST see the pop-up book, you can find the 50-foot high pop-up book about the Hobbit’s New Zealand on the grounds of the Beverly Hotel in Hollywood.
