It’s been a while since we’ve seen Johnny Depp do a movie without some wild makeup covering his pretty face. Aside from “The Tourist” in 2010, it’s been a slew of costume-type roles for the 50-year-old actor, including “The Lone Ranger,” “Dark Shadows,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Alice in Wonderland” and the like.
But in “Mortdecai,” which begins filming in London this week, he suits up to play Charles Mortdecai, an art dealer who searches for a stolen painting rumored to contain a secret code that gains access to hidden Nazi gold.
The David Koepp-directed flick also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, and Olivia Munn. No release date yet.
