The first still and teaser trailer for Summit Entertainment’s “Red 2,” in theaters Aug. 2, 2013, just hit the Web.
I burst out laughing when I saw the photo above. There’s just a lot going on there — John Malkovich with the boots, plaid shorts and striped shirt; Bruce Willis with orange pants, plaid shirt and a goofy grin; Mary-Louise Parker wearing a shiny baseball jacket and plaid skirt that sketchy men dream about. What’s with all the plaid, Summit?
And that’s just the beginning. Then we’ve got Willis’ gun, and what’s that in Malkovich’s hand? A hair dryer? Is it attached to the cord that goes into the burning barrel a la “Repo Man”? Is it a bomb posing as a hairdryer? My head is spinning.
Here’s the official synopsis for “Red 2”: In the high-octane action-comedy sequel to the worldwide sleeper hit, retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses (Willis) reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device.
To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world-and stay alive in the process.
So … it’s basically like every other Bruce Willis movie. Yeah, yeah, ok, “Looper” was different. He still had a gun, though. “Red 2” also stars Anthony Hopkins (!) (wait, I thought he retired), Helen Mirren, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung Hun Lee, Brian Cox and Neal McDonough.
Ok, let’s take a look at the trailer, which is just as entertaining as the photo:
