Real Time With Bill Maher Launches 11th Season Jan. 18

Real Time With Bill Maher

Real Time With Bill Maher” returns for its 11th season Friday, Jan. 18 at 10 p.m. live ET / tape-delayed PT) on HBO, and it sounds like a doozy.

I don’t always agree with everything he says, but I appreciate that he’s very opinionated and stands by his opinions. One thing I love about this show is that it throws a bunch of people together from all walks of life, and we get to eavesdrop on their discussions ranging from politics to entertainment to everything in between.

Round-table guests for the first show include reporter Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, former Ohio Rep. Steve LaTourette, comedian-actor MartinShort, former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey, and journalist Rula Jebreal. What a crowd!

Maher has been around since his first special aired on HBO in 1989. He starred in nine solo specials, including the hour-long presentations “Bill Maher … But I’m Not Wrong,” “The Decider” and “I’m Swiss” (both nominated for Emmys), “Victory Begins at Home,” “Be More Cynical,” “The Golden Goose Special” and “Stuff That Struck Me Funny,” and two half-hour stand-up specials, plus the specials “30 Seconds Over Washington” and “Comic Relief VI.”

He first came to my attention with “Politically Incorrect,” which was produced by HBO Downtown Productions and debuted on Comedy Central in 1993. The series moved to ABC in 1997 and ran through 2002.

His latest book, “The New New Rules: A Funny Look at How Everybody but Me Has Their Head Up Their Ass,” was published in November 2011 and made the New York Times bestseller list. Maher produced and starred in the 2008 feature film “Religulous,” the seventh most successful documentary of all time.
