“Argo” took the big prize at the Producers Guild Awards ceremony last night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The producers of the film are director and star Ben Affleck, George Clooney and Grant Heslov.

Last year, the PGA gave this prize to “The Artist,” which went on to win the Oscar for best film. This marked the fifth consecutive year the Producers Guild has dovetailed with the Motion Picture Academy’s choice. Affleck must be stoked, especially after his recent Golden Globe win, even if the Academy didn’t nominate him in the best director category.

Other winners last night included the producers of “Searching for Sugar Man” for best documentary and the Showtime series “Homeland” for episodic drama. The Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures “Wreck-It Ralph” won the animated prize.

In addition to the competitive awards, the PGA recognized several producers with honorary awards, including Bob and Harvey Weinstein (Milestone Award), Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures), J.J. Abrams (Norman Lear Achievement Award in Television), Russell Simmons (Visionary Award), along with “Bully,” which won the Stanley Kramer Award. The 2013 Producers Guild Awards were chaired by Michael De Luca.
