Behind the Scenes at Paramount’s 100th Anniversary Photo Shoot (Video)

If you shoot it, they will come | Paramount Pictures

Even though celebrities and movie stars are more accessible to the masses these days (we can thank @Twitter, Facebook and other social media sites for that), it’s still thrilling to see them in person or grouped together at a big event like the Oscars, the Emmys, or the recent photo shoot celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Paramount Pictures.

On historic Stage 18, 116 of Hollywood’s most notable figures assembled for the epic photo shoot (click here to see a larger version of the above image). You can read more about the company’s history at Paramount.com, but suffice to say that when you’ve got movies like No Country for Old Men, Titanic, Forrest Gump, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and The Ten Commandments, as well as franchises like Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, The Godfather and Indiana Jones to your name, that’s saying something.

Founded in 1912 as the Famous Players Film Company, Paramount Pictures counts among its alumni such silent film greats as Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Gloria Swanson, and Rudolph Valentino, not to mention Cecil B. DeMille, who made all his biblical epics for the studio.

When the talkies came along, Paramount added more glitterati to its roster, including Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, Gary Cooper, the Marx Brothers, Bob Hope, and writer-director Preston Sturges. In the postwar years, directors Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, William Wyler, and Jerry Lewis plied their craft at Paramount.

In 1966, the studio was bought by Charlie Bluhdorn, who along with production chief Bob Evans ushered in a new era with Love Story, the first two Godfathers, and Chinatown. Then came Barry Diller, who, with the help of Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg, turned Paramount into a blockbuster factory with the Indiana Jones pictures and a string of hits starring fresh faces such as Tom Cruise and Eddie Murphy.

Sumner Redstone’s Viacom bought the studio in 1994, and under studio head Sherry Lansing, the company brought us Titanic, Braveheart, and Forrest Gump, all of which won best-picture Oscars. Brad Grey succeeded her in 2005, and he produced eight of Paramount’s 10 top-grossing pictures of all time.
