Rise of the Guardians: Too Scary for Kids?

Rise of the GuardiansRise of the Guardians hits theaters on Nov. 21, 2012, which officially makes it a holiday movie, but it might play better for adults than kids. Any time you put the word “army” in the same sentence with “the Easter Bunny,” it makes me wonder.

The story revolves around a scary creature called the Boogieman, who launches an assault on Earth, causing several mythic beings — including Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman and others — to team up to stop him. Could be interesting, or could be a little scary for youngsters still young enough to believe in these beings.

The movie is based on the book franchise [amazon_link id=”B006HUGJ5C” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Guardians of Childhood[/amazon_link] by William Joyce, and directed by Peter Ramsey, who worked on Monsters vs. Aliens as Head of Story. It reminds me a little of books like The Giver or, yes, The Hunger Games. Intriguing, but also a little frightening. Good voice cast, though, including Alec Baldwin, Chris Pine, Hugh Jackman, Jude Law, Isla Fisher and Dakota Goyo.

What do you think of the Rise of the Guardians trailer? It definitely looks like a different movie than one of my favorite holiday movies from last year, Arthur Christmas.

Thanks for the heads up about kids!

I love kids movies. I’ll check this one out before recommending my 3-year-old granddaughter see it.

Hum, I’m a bit suspicious that this might be a stinker–monsters v. aliens was okay. But my daughter talked me in to seeing the Easter movie, Hop, yikes that was a long, dull flick

I think depending on the age of the child, it will be ok.

This was a good warning, altho Monsters v Aliens was awesome.

I’ve not heard of this book OR movie. My kids are teens now, so thankfully I don’t have to worry too much about fearfulness over a movie like this. Appreciate the heads up, though.
