Oscars 2012: Who Wore Your Favorite Dresses?

Oscars 2012: Angelina's Leg
"Ok, put the leg away now, honey."

I’m not quite ready to put this year’s Oscar telecast into my rearview mirror, and wanted to post some of my favorite dresses. But first, let’s talk about the ones that didn’t make the grade.

Like everyone else, I thought Angelina’s incessant posing with the right leg jutting out weirdly was just ridiculous. Had to laugh when Joan Rivers, on the Fashion Police Oscar round-up, brought out a prosthetic leg to illustrate the point. And in this picture to the right, you can just see Brad Pitt going, “Ok, honey. Put the leg away. Before I have to put you away.”

I also wasn’t crazy about Gwyneth Paltrow’s cape. It just seemed too Batman-like, only in white. The White Caped Crusader. Or maybe The White Knight.

I liked Viola Davis’ green dress, except that it seemed too squished on the top. With dresses like that, you can’t seem to divert your eyes from the boobage area. I really liked the Afro, though. Work it, girl.

Ok, let’s talk about some of the dresses I liked…

Octavia Spencer is the epitome of someone who knows her body, knows what works well, and knows how to accentuate her curves. Or maybe it’s her stylist who knows all that. At any rate, I loved her white gown with all the right lines for her body. Just beautiful.

I usually don’t like red dresses on a red carpet, because they’re either a different red that clashes, or they’re the same red and then the dress fades into the carpet. But I really love this little red number on Natalie Portman. I’m not sure what’s going on with the hemline, but the little polka dots are really fun.

Here’s another red dress, which is perfect for petite Michelle Williams with her pixie haircut. Some of my buds over on Facebook weren’t crazy about the middle thingie, but I think it’s cute.

Stacy Keibler has the added benefit of being on George Clooney’s arm, so even if she wore a potato sack, half the people would never notice. But she plays it just right with this slinky gold number. She looks just LIKE an Oscar, which I think is utterly charming.

Penelope Cruz wore my favorite dress of the night. The Facebook buds couldn’t figure out what color it is (medium blue? gunmetal gray? lavendar?), but we all agreed on one thing: it’s classic and beautiful.

That whole leg thing went viral, but I’m sure you know that by now. Just kind of weird — didn’t see Joan doing Jolie with a prosthetic but that does sound funny.
