It’s been a while since I’ve seen a good horse movie, so War Horse is big on my list of must-see films this year. Especially since it’s produced and directed by the busiest guy in Hollywood, Steven Spielberg. Seriously, there’s like a hundred film and TV projects he’s touched in some way this year alone.

Based on the [amazon_link id="0545403359" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]book by Michael Morpurgo[/amazon_link], War Horse follows a young man named Albert (Jeremy Irvine) and his horse, Joey. When Joey is sold to the cavalry and sent to the trenches of World War One, Albert heads to France to save his friend, despite the fact that he’s too young to enlist. Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock!) also star.

War Horse is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of war violence, and hits theaters on Christmas Day. I usually see a movie on Christmas Day to wind down after all the festivities, so War Horse will definitely be the one this year. It’s distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, so I really hope it has a happy ending. I’d hate to get totally bummed out on Christmas Day, but the official synopsis calls it a film of “hope, loyalty and tenacity,” which bodes well.

Anyone read the book? Take a look at the trailer and see what you think. It looks amazing. I love everything about it.

I’m not much on war movies, but I agree, the trailer looks as though its a movie with many dimensions. I even liked the music — do you know who composed it?

I’m probably too sensitive to see something where an animal is in such danger, but it looks like it will be terrific.

I’m with you Jane. Sounds like a great movie, esp with Spielberg behind it. And I also hope there’s a happy ending;)
