Film Gecko Giveaway: The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Blu-Ray

A friend and I were just talking about a theater that showed ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show,’ but told moviegoers to behave themselves. No shouting at the screen, no throwing popcorn, no dancing in the aisles.

rocky-horror-picture-show-35th-anniv-blurayOk, seriously. You’ve got a theater full of drag queens, and they’re supposed to behave themselves? Or for that matter, just regular folks who enjoy that shared ‘Rocky Horror’ experience? That’s sacrilege.

If you live near one of those “behave yourselves” theaters, this giveaway is for you. It’s the 35th anniversary of ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show,’ which means I’m giving away TWO Limited Edition Blu-ray copies of the famed cult classic that follows rain-soaked Brad and Janet (Barry Bostwick, Susan Sarandon) as they take refuge in the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite mad scientist from outer space who’s about to unveil his greatest creation!

TO ENTER: Leave a comment below telling me your ‘Rocky Horror’ experiences. Or if you have none, tell me that, too. Deadline is midnight on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010. A winner will be drawn randomly, and I’ll email the winner after the contest ends.

This edition includes both the U.S. and U.K. versions of the film, along with original photos by Mick Rock, two additional musical numbers (‘Superheroes’ and ‘Once in a While’), audio commentary by Richard O’Brien and Patricia Quinn, cool pressbook and poster gallery, and so much more.

Can’t wait? Buy it on Amazon.

Wow, behave yourselves? that IS awful. my rocky horror show experience was going to see it performed last halloween. it’s a movie theater with the film on the screen, but actors are dressed up and move around, mouthing the words in front of it. it’s SO much fun. they even make you do the time warp in the aisles…so yeah, they want you to have some fun and NOT behave haha

  6. Melanie Avatar

Costumes, dancing and throwing things are what RHPS is about. If you aren’t having that experience, you may as well stay home. I think my first time was in Tidewater, Virginia. I seem to remember lots of people screaming “Virgin”.

Great giveaway! Several years ago, I went to see the RHPS on a quasi date with a friend. We wanted the full experience – freaks throwing toast at the screen and all. Sadly, there was no one there participating in the RHPS extras. What a let down. I haven’t seen the movie since and would love to see it again – espescially in glorius Blu-ray hi def!

I have–luckily–seen RHPS in all its glory at midnight performances at the fabulous Oriental Landmark Theatre in Milwaukee. All I can say is, “Let’s Do the Time Warp Again!”

I haven’t seen it in theaters, but I seen it many, many times on DVD. It is just as great, because I can dress up alone, and no one can judge me, and I can also sing along to the film alone, so that I wouldn’t have to be embarrassed. I’m also an extreme fan of the film, and I’m proud to say it.

I’ve never seen it in a theater. I’m a tiny bit too young for the heyday, but my hubby remembers going with his sister to a theater in Santa Fe and being like, “What the heck?”

We just watched it again on Netflix last week and laugh, laugh, laughed.

Afterwards, I told him he could perhaps use the song There’s a Light at my memorial later in life, and he replied that I could use that last song — I’m going home.

    Howz that for creepy?

In the 80s (I’m dating myself lol) ther was a theatre in downtown Victoria BC that would show the RHPS every weekend in October!

I remember getting dolled up in the best garters and stockings I could find and joining other crazy folk like me.

I have to say, it was one of the best times I’ve had! Dancing, throwoing popcorn etc., laughing……..loved it!

This would be so much fun to own…..I’m not sure if the theatre is still showing RHPS these days, but I hope it does!

This used to show at midnight on Fri nights at one theater in our area. I don’t think my friends and I ever brought anything, but other people threw all sorts of crazy stuff at the screen. And there were always the people who knew all the words. I remember one night a girl in front of claimed her purse had been stolen. We hadn’t noticed anything – so wrapped up in the movie. She stood at the door on the way out and accosted people as they left, but was very belligerant with, insisting we open our bags and prove we didn’t have her purse. I remember my friend turning to me, shocked saying “She thought WE took her purse!” I thought that was so naive – that she was shocked by this. Not really a memory of the movie, but my biggest memory of going there! Another memory – My now husband and I went there after my prom with some friends to see it.

I’ve been fortunate enough to see it performed live in NYC (where we were encouraged to shout and throw stuff) and unfortunate enough to see it in a recently refurbed theater where they told people they could either leave the toast etc. at the door or go put it back in the car. Never dressed up, though.

I was dating my girlfriend at the time and we went to a midnight showing at the local mall. I was indoctrinated into the strange, obsessive cult that is the Rocky Horror crowd with a large paper mache’ object (which going into further detail would offend some people). There were fishnets, rice, lipstick and the usual cult shenanigans abound. The mall lost its movie theater eventually but I married my girlfriend and we have THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW in our DVD collection as a reminder of a misspent youth.

I haven’t seen it in years, we had a showing here at the local college and some friends that had seen it several times convinced me to go as Janet… I was really shocked to see how interactive the movie was, but it was fun to see how everyone really got into it, reciting the lines, throwing stuff, and some of the costumes and personalities that came along with the movie (and audience!) were very cool. I’d love to do the Timewarp again! lol
