Season three of ‘Castle’ premieres Monday, Sept. 20, 10 PM ET on ABC. Of course, like every other female on the planet, I love Nathan Fillion as the dashing author Richard Castle. I’ve been a fan since his ‘Firefly’ days, and even before that, when he played Joey Buchanan on ‘One Life to Live.’

naked-heat-richard-castleI hope the romance continues to heat up between Castle and Beckett this season. I practically wept during the season two finale when Beckett sadly watched Castle leave for the summer with his ex-wife. Fillion and Stana Katic have great chemistry, and while it’s not always in the best interest of a show to put the two leads together, it could work here. And by the looks of the season three promo below, there’s plenty of tension ahead!

Another thing I love about ‘Castle’ is the marketing of the show in ways you don’t necessarily see these days. I’m talking about the real-life Nikki Heat novels written by Richard Castle himself. It makes me happily crazy when I see Castle playing poker on the show with real-life authors James Patterson, Michael Connelly and Stephen J. Cannell, then get a press release with these same folks blurbing Castle’s new book.

Naked Heat’ (Hyperion; Sept. 28, 2010) delves into the glittery world of secrets, cover-ups and scandals, when New York’s vicious gossip columnist, Cassidy Towne, is found dead. Nikki Heat’s murder investigation is complicated by her surprise reunion with superstar journalist Jameson Rook. In the wake of their recent breakup, Nikki would rather not deal with the emotional baggage, but the handsome, wise-cracking Pulitzer Prize-winning author’s involvement in the case pairs them up on a search for a killer among celebs, mobsters, singers, hookers, pro athletes and shamed politicians.

  1. Well Ilike most I’m a big fan of Mr. Fillion since FireFly, but Castle is my Favorite Show right now, Why?, because it’s got action, comedy, drama, it’s like CSI but waaay more FUN!. And of course It’s got Nathan Fillion and the always Gorgeous Stana Katic. What more could you want!?!?!

  2. I love this show although I was heartbroken by the season finale when they both went their seperate ways – him with his ex just at Beckett was going to say she wanted to go with him. Maybe this season they will get together. They have so much chemistry and the comedy mixed in with the drama is a perfect blend.

  3. Hi! I love this show! They do such a good job with the two main characters interacting in so many ways. Nathan Fillion is a excellent actor. I pretty much enjoy him in everything that he has been in. I really liked him in the movie “Waitress”. Thank you for a fantastic giveaway! 🙂

  4. I love the relationship between the characters more than anything both as it is now and what it could grow into someday. But Beckett and Castle as strong and interesting individuals makes me watch as well!

  5. I absolutely love Castle & Nathan Fillion. Nathan Fillion was actually the reason I started watching the show. Although Castle and Mal don’t share many similarities in terms of character, I’ve grown to love both characters for who they are. Castle is different than most crime shows because it solves crimes by examining the story behind the murder. They work backwards to find their culprit, an interesting and innovative approach that isn’t showcased on TV often. 😀

  6. I love the banter between Beckett and Castle, and the mysteries are always interesting. I also love that all of the side characters are interesting too, it’s not just focused on the leads.

  7. Castle is the perfect mix of humour & crime drama. It’s so refreshing to see a crime procedural that doesn’t take itself too seriously and has such an incredible cast of characters that are written with depth and insight. Castle is easily my favourite show and I cannot wait for season 3 to start!

  8. Well, I watched Castle because of Nathan Fillion. At that time, I had just discovered about Firefly and Serenity (and Malcolm Reynolds!) so I decided to watch Castle (caught up with season 1 before season 2 aired). I wasn’t disappointed – I loved the chemistry between Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion. This show can be funny and serious… and I don’t know, I just love the whole package!

  9. I love Castle because the build of the show steps away from traditional procedurals and ‘partnership’ stories with characters that are engaging and fun! I’ve loved Nathan since Firefly and he’s the reason I tuned in, and he never, ever disappoints. But beyond the obvious fun you can see him having with the role of Castle–and he really does seem like he’s having the time of his life, both on and off screen–it’s the way he adds unexpected depth to the character that gets me every time. Castle’s relationship with his family is one of the primary reasons I am a diehard fan of the show, and I love how he plays at being a real father, with true concerns, restrictions and rules, rather than the ‘fun dad’ he could have been written.

The writers sensed the cast has chemistry and Castle’s supporting cast are as endearing as the leads. I love how nobody on the show is clueless or truly stereotypical–they have all stepped out on their own and made their characters fun to watch. I’m as interested in Ryan or Esposito, Martha, Lanie or Alexis, as I am in the mystery at hand.

But the leads sell it, and now that Stana Katic has found Beckett’s center she’s as brilliant as Nathan and a perfect partner for him. She respects he can steal the show but doesn’t allow him to take it away from her–it’s such a great balance! Truly fantastic show, and the little additional elements–such as Nathan’s off-screen respect for his fans, the support of writers like James Patterson and the little perks, like the Heat series of books, just make it all the better.

  10. I love Castle because beyond the mystery, there is a sense of fun and the chemistry between the characters is amazing. I’ve loved Nathan since Firefly, and will follow him pretty much anywhere. I’ve had the great fortune to meet him in person at a con, and he is such a geek.

  11. Thanks for IDing the third author on the show. I recognized Stephen J. Cannell and James Patterson, but I did not recognize Michael Connelly, who happens to be one of my favorite authors.

  12. Castle is a must-see show for me since I love the mystery/crime/humor mix of the entire cast of characters, especially Castle & family. Bravo and may it have a long series run.

  13. I love Castle and how they’ve integrated fiction and real life. The tweets are great. During summer off season, we get a murder tweeted by Castle. He’s published 2 books and Nathan shows up to sign them at book stores. It’s awesome! My main sadness comes that the signings are in CA and not MI. Nathan is also great to follow on twitter. His roles as Mal, Captain Hammer, & Castle are all warm and fun and I love to watch him. I can only image the laughter that must happen on any set he works.

  14. I really like the way Castle seems like such a regular guy, but a very rich regular guy. I hope this season is as good as the last and that Castle and Beckett get together.

  15. I love Nathan and Castle because they don’t take themselves too seriously. The first time I really remember seeing Nathan F is in Dr. Horrible’s singalong.

he is such a FUN actor. I just love to watch him. Castle is a fun character. It makes for a great evening! Our family just loves him.

  16. Oh my gosh!! What isn’t there to love about Castle and Mr. Fillion? I love the chemistry of the entire cast, the witty writting and the amazing acting.

  17. LOVE this series and can’t wait until tomorrow night’s season premier. The stories are always fun, but I really love Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic. What great chemistry! Thanks for the contest!

  18. I would love to win this book. It looks like a good read I enjoy mysteries. I have never seen the show Castle. It must be on cable!! That’s why I read so much!! Thanks for the giveaway!!!!

  19. Wow, nick of time here – My wife is a huge Castle fan because, I think, thats how she wants her life to go. Uber successful writer, good kid, close family, exciting life, good friends, useful to society… ok, who wouldn’t want all that?

  20. Been watching Nathan since his days as Joey too. I can’t BELIEVE that with Nathan and Ryan Reynolds in it that “Two Guys and a Girl” isn’t out on DVD, and of course we love Firefly/Serenity so much that we named our daughter “Kaylee!”

We went to Nathan’s signing of the first Castle book last year and had a great time. Kaylee (had just turned 3) thoroughly charmed her Captain. I was actually googling to see if there was going to be another round of signings and I ran across your column. I love free things too.
